VFW Post 2298 hosts dinner, music
On Saturday, Aug. 1, the Tri-City Evergreen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2298 will present an evening of music and buffet dinner at the post home, 117 S. First St., West Dundee. It will feature tributes to Frank Sinatra by John LoBianco, Patsy Kline by Alice Loftus and Elvis by Bruce Wisser. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. There will be a cash bar from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by dinner from 7 to 8 p.m. The music performances will be from 8 to 11 p.m. For tickets, call (847) 4288-9006.
Shop for bargains at annual sale
You can shop for great bargains at The Larkin Center's annual community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31, at the center, 1212 Larkin Ave. in Elgin.
The agency is in need of small household items, kitchenware, furniture, sporting goods, bikes and knickknacks. Donated items can be dropped off on the front porch at 1212 Larkin Ave. starting on Monday, July 27, through the morning of July 30. Horizons hosts open house, celebration
On Tuesday, July 28, Horizons for the Blind, a nonprofit organization at 2 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake, will host an open house at 2 p.m. and a Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce Mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the 200th birthday of Louis Braille. The event will feature hands-on exhibits and presentations highlighting the history and use of Braille. Tours of Horizons will also be available. Refreshments will be served throughout the day along with birthday cake for Braille, the inventor of the Braille language system. Braille is credited with empowering blind and visually impaired people to lead fuller and more productive lives. Horizons for the Blind is a leading provider of Braille, large print and audio transcription to businesses, organizations and people who are blind or visually impaired.
