Itasca, U.S. Army partnership:

The village of Itasca and the U.S. Army will sign a Community Covenant during the annual Itasca Independence Day Celebration Saturday at Hamilton Lakes, Route 53 and Thorndale Avenue. Capt. John Kirchgessner, commander of the Libertyville Bandits Company, said the ceremony will solidify a grass-roots partnership between the village and the Army. "Itasca ... continues to be a community that shares a unique likeness with the Army values," he said in an e-mail. He cited the village's commitment to programs that support the military, police officers, fire officials and teachers. Itasca is the first municipality in Illinois to join a Community Covenant, with Naperville and Chicago scheduled to join in September.
