Scouting Streamwood @ Grayslake Central

Streamwood (1-7, 0-6) at Grayslake Central (3-5, 2-4)

When: Today at 7:15 p.m.

Last: First meeting

Last week: Elgin 21, Streamwood 12; Grayslake Central 28, Grayslake North 0

Outlook: It took seven weeks, but the Sabres' starting quarterback was finally cleared to play last week for the first time. Joey Hanover practiced with the team all summer as the starter while rehabilitating from ACL surgery and expected to be cleared by doctors in time for the season opener. However, that clearance didn't come until he obtained a second opinion in time for last week's game. Streamwood used three quarterbacks in the meantime. Rusty, Hanover completed only 4-of-17 passes for 33 yards against Elgin, and he ran for 29 yards on 9 carries. "He's been tremendous as far as continuing to stick with the team and doing what he could do," Streamwood coach Cal Cummins said. "He was extremely disappointed with his performance, but I told him, 'Hey, you're in Week 1 and everyone else is in Week 8.' But his leadership was nice to have and gave us a little bit of confidence as far as having our quarterback back on the field." The Sabres will attempt to finish the season on a high note with a win on familiar artificial turf in this nonconference game. "This is a team I think we can go out and compete with," Cummins said of the Rams. "They're pretty sound. It would be nice to get a win and get a little confidence. Our seniors have been important. They've allowed us to play some people tough, at least through the half of most ballgames. Having a win here at the end would give us that little extra to take a little confidence into next year."
