Campton police warn of car burglars
Campton Hills police are investigating a burglary spree this week that targeted several unlocked vehicles.
Police Chief Greg Anderson said in an e-mail alert to citizens Thursday that seven vehicle burglaries were reported Monday on Crestwood and Palomino drives and Pinto Lane. Several vehicle burglaries also were reported to county deputies the same night in Campton Township's Windings subdivision.
"Each one of these vehicles was left unlocked, and a variety of items were taken from each," the chief said. "In none of these burglaries was force used (to get inside vehicles)."
Anderson said burglars often come from outside the village and "sweep" neighborhoods for items that are valuable and easy to steal.
Police are asking citizens to lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight. Also, suspicious activity can be reported by calling (630) 584-0330.
"These crimes are easily preventable," Anderson said.
