Stop minimizing soccer, Daily Herald

Every morning I open the sports section of your newspaper hoping to find some soccer news. Sometimes I am lucky and find a very (very) small note about the Chicago Fire. That usually makes my day.

After the U.S. National soccer team made soccer history beating the Number 1 team in the world, Spain, in an international sports competition, I thought: Tomorrow will be the day. I will open the sports section of the Daily Herald and I will see, on the first page, a big article dedicated to soccer.

What do I find? Your main story was dedicated to a basketball player. Are you serious? One of the biggest sports events in the world was sent to Page 3. Can someone explain that to me? Do you really think only basketball, baseball and golf fans read your newspaper?

Soccer is no longer a sport that is growing in the U.S. It is here. It is big and it is everywhere. Don't you understand that soccer is a worldwide sport not just an American sport? Sports fans are no longer just local. Your newspaper will have a huge audience if you make us (soccer fans) want to read your newspaper, your sports section. Stop minimizing soccer.
