Fight health care tunnel vision
I just read a recent letter from Jason G. Spoor, teacher union president for Palatine-Schaumburg School District 211 and am appalled and angered at his position on health care. Unions historically make little to no concessions during difficult economic times (unless they have no other political choice) and currently have benefits and retirement plans that are far, far more generous than the rest of us have in the private sector. Tenure allows teachers a "bullet proof" job for life guarantee while the rest of us have to live with the real possibilities of losing our job and benefits at any time in the private sector. Teachers work nine months a year for a good annual salary while the rest of us work 12 months a year sometimes without any vacation time whatsoever and in many cases for less than teachers are provided.
It is painfully obvious that Spoor has a vested interest in promoting government run health care. The union can move all members to government care, thereby reduce their member benefits costs, and still collect the same union dues (revenues) from members, a massive windfall for the union. This is all done on the backs of the taxpayers. He provides voodoo statistics that are misleading and incomplete but fails to provide any meaningful information regarding care availability, quality of care or senior exclusion for certain procedures in the countries he mentions.
How much does the Obama administration pay for program endorsements by Unions and community organizational groups (Acorn)? I am sure that it must be in the six-figure range.
It's time that all private sector citizens make it known that we are tired of the taxation shakedown.
