DuPage County briefs

No board vote necessary:

A controversial proposal that would have allowed builders in DuPage County to construct more densely populated developments in some residential zoning districts will not be voted on by the full county board. The proposed "work force housing zoning amendments" were rejected by the board's development committee after residents in targeted zoning districts complained the proposal would lower their property values. The state's attorney's office determined the committee's vote was enough to kill the proposal and it is unnecessary for the full board to vote it down, county officials said.

Naperville lawsuit settled:

Naperville and City Councilman Richard Furstenau officially have inked a settlement agreement. The councilman will drop his federal lawsuit and those he sued will not try to recoup an estimated $1 million in legal fees. The suit stems from a 2006 incident in which Furstenau was accused of shoving a police officer but later acquitted. Several city employees, police officers and the city itself became part of his subsequent civil rights suit. Furstenau and the city released a joint statement Wednesday saying both sides still believe their respective positions to be correct but they will "re-focus on serving the people of Naperville without further distraction."

Wheaton homes burglarized:

Two separate residences in Wheaton were burglarized during the early morning hours of July 1, police say. The homes were entered while the residents were sleeping. Police believe the burglar entered through unlocked first-floor windows at the homes in the 700 block of East Evergreen and the 1900 block of Brentwood Lane. Computer equipment was stolen from the home on Evergreen while a purse was missing from the home on Brentwood Lane. One resident observed a suspect described as a white male, 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a medium build and sandy blond hair wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Deputy Chief Tom Meloni at (630) 260-4862.
