Teams set tryouts
Summer travel softball organizations around the area have slated tryouts for the 2009-10 season. The Northern Illinois Lightning will conduct tryouts Tuesday, Aug. 4, Saturday, Aug. 8, Tuesday, Aug. 11 and Saturday, Aug. 15. On the Tuesday dates, 16U tryouts will be from 5-7 p.m., and 18U and 18 & over from 7-9 p.m. On the Saturday dates, 16U will try out from 10 a.m.-noon, with 18U and 18 & over from 12:30-2 p.m.

Fox Valley Renegades: The Fox Valley Renegades will hold tryouts Aug. 8-9 and Aug. 15-16. Crystal Lake Tidal Waves: The Crystal Lake Tidal Waves will hold tryouts at Prairie Ridge High School on Aug. 8-9 and Aug. 15-16. Tryouts for 14U will be from noon-2 p.m., and for 16-18U from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 8-9. On Aug. 15-16, tryouts for 10U will be from 10-11:45 a.m., and for 12U from noon-1:45 p.m. A $10 tryout fee is payable at the event. Silver Hawks to ASA Nationals: The Bartlett Silver Hawks, who won the 2008 ASA Northern National championship, are competing in the ASA Major National tournament next week in Las Vegas. The Silver Hawks are 52-14-1 this season and finished fourth in the Chicago Metro tournament and second in the Northern Illinois Lightning Summer Bash, losing to the host team. Local team members include Rachael Anello, Tia Filishio, Elizabeth Kay, Megan Morales and Callie Dennison of Bartlett and Kim Pierce of South Elgin. The team is managed by Brad Dennison and coached by Thijs Dennison and Jim Pierce.
