Checkpoint in Barrington Hills:

Barrington Hills police will conduct a roadside safety check from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. near Routes 62 and 59 the evening of Wednesday, July 1, police announced. Like many area departments who are stepping up enforcement around the July 4 holiday, authorities will be specifically looking for alcohol- and other traffic-related offenses and active warrants. Just last Saturday in nearby Deer Park, three people were killed in a crash in which alcohol was a factor, authorities said Monday.

Wolf Road resurfacing:

IDOT crews will resurface Wolf Road from Golf Road to Touhy Avenue. The project is part of the American Reinvestment Recovery Act. Wolf Road will have single lanes closures for resurfacing beginning Monday, July 6, for about two months. Expect long delays during construction. Motorists are advised to follow signage and drive cautiously and to use alternate routes.

Mark Walker to visit farms:

State Rep. Mark Walker, an Arlington Heights Democrat, joined the Illinois Farm Bureau's "Adopt-a-Legislator" program this summer, partnering with Crawford County in southeastern Illinois. Walker will visit Crawford County - about 50 miles southwest of Terre Haute, Ind. - in July to tour several farms. In August, Crawford County Farm Bureau members will visit Walker's district and tour Motorola's Schaumburg campus. Walker is one of 73 legislators in the program, which began in 2001 to foster personal relationships between Chicago metropolitan area legislators and downstate county farm bureaus.

Police dog to get vest:

The Academy of Dog Grooming Arts is donating and presenting a canine bulletproof vest for one of the Palatine police dogs at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at the school campus, 1742 W. Algonquin Road, Arlington Heights. This is the third canine vest donated by the students of the academy and sponsored by Sharron Panther, director.
