No link yet in DuPage illnesses
No link has been found to explain why at least five people in Lisle and Downers Grove became ill over the weekend after eating at area restaurants, DuPage County Health Department officials said Thursday.
Investigators heard from a handful of others who also experienced vomiting and diarrhea over the weekend, but officials say they haven't found any connection to foods or anything else that would tie the cases together.
"We haven't identified any confirmed source that's a link between the cases," spokesman David Hass said.
He said the health department has been in touch with area hospitals but "we're not hearing any unusual reports of anything."
Investigators continue to explore possibilities, he said, but "it's possible there is no link."
The health department began looking into the cases after five people were treated over the weekend at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove complaining of the same symptoms. Two of those people were admitted but later released.
The department received several more reports of similar illnesses on Wednesday.
Preliminary lab tests for the original patients came back negative for common causes of food-borne illnesses, including salmonella.
