Volunteers needed for Literacy Connection

The Literacy Connection, an organization dedicated to adult literacy, seeks volunteers to tutor adults in Basic Reading or English as a Second Language.

Flexible training is provided and no special education or foreign language is required. If you are 18 or older and can read, write, and converse in English, you can literally change a life this summer.

Attend a free orientation for prospective tutors from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Amcore Bank, 1950 Big Timber Road in Elgin.

Training workshops will follow from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, July 6-22, at the same location. Volunteers can make up any missed sessions during a later training series or online.

Many of the learners struggle to read prescriptions, write checks or communicate with their children's teachers. You can help change that, and enable adults in your community to become more independent. For details, call (847) 742-6565, e-mail info@elginliteracy.org, visit elginliteracy.org or attend the July 1 orientation.
