'42nd Street' at Arcada:
Come and meet those dancing feet as Rising Star Theatreworks kicks off its sixth season with "42nd Street" at 7:30 tonight, Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Arcada Theater, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. It features high school and collegiate actors from Aurora, Batavia, Elburn, Geneva, St. Charles and Wayne. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Scholarships available:
Fox-River Geneva American Legion Post is offering two $1,000 and two $500 scholarships to students attending or planning to attend a two- or four-year accredited college, university or technical school. The student must be a descendant of an active duty, reserve or honorably discharged veteran and have an overall grade-point average of at least 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 3.0 on a 5-point scale. Pick up an application in the Post lobby on Fridays between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., request one by mail, or e-mail al.post75@gmail.com. The deadline is Tuesday. The Post is at 22 S. Second St., Geneva.
Learn to be a lifeguard:
Teens 12 to 15 interested in lifeguarding are invited to participate in Raging Waves' new Junior Lifeguard training program in Yorkville. The program began earlier this month and continues through August. Two sessions are available in both July and August. Sessions cost $39.99 and include five 90-minute classes, a T-shirt, whistle, lanyard, and completion certificate. Participants will learn lifeguarding and lifesaving basics. Museum promo for kids:
Children who participate in the "Passport to Adventure" program will find plenty of opportunities for excitement and journeys through history at Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley's Fabyan Villa Museum, Japanese Garden, Durant House Museum and Beith House Museum. Through Labor Day, children 4 to 12 with Passports in hand can explore these museums and others in Kane and DuPage counties. If they collect seven stamps, they will receive a prize.
