Antioch to salute the troops:
The village of Antioch will host its annual Salute to the Troops ceremony Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at William E. Brook Memorial Entertainment Center, 902 Skidmore Drive. The ceremony will involve active and retired military members. Antioch VFW Post 4551 and Lake County Marine Corps League Detachment 801 are helping organize the event. Route 60 work begins:
The Illinois Department of Transportation begins work today to repair and resurface Route 60 (Townline Road) from just west of the Tri-State Tollway to Route 21 (Milwaukee Avenue) in Mettawa and Vernon Hills. Moving lane closures are expected between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The project is scheduled to be complete by Sept. 30.
Seniors Day is Wednesday:
The annual Seniors Day celebration is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville. Admission is free for Lake County residents 55 or older. Music, bingo, pontoon boat rides and other activities are scheduled. Attendees should pack lunch.
Rondout School upgrades:
Additions and renovations to Rondout School are on schedule and will stay within the $3.5 million budget, Superintendent Jenny Wojcik said. Construction on four new classrooms, a new gym and remodeling efforts will be complete by Oct. 1. General renovations are expected to conclude by Sept. 1. Rondout Elementary District 72 recently established a task force to determine the fate of the green acreage south of the main building. Public forums will be hosted in the fall to include the community in discussions.
The Chapel seminar:
The Chapel's Barrington campus, 180 N. Hawthorne Road in Barrington Hills, will host a relationship seminar Saturday, June 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Therapists and authors of the book "How We Love," Milan and Kay Yerkovich, will offer an approach to building healthy relationships within and outside the home. With more than 25 years experience working with couples, the Yerkovichs will share their insight building effective communication skills and developing healthy and lasting relationships.
