Don't let it hit you on the way out, Cheney
The Obama-Cheney debate could be good for the GOP if it encouraged someone with intellect to stand up and say, "Enough."
Somehow GOP strategists think they have leaders in the likes of Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh. If I were a staunch Democrat, I'd applaud such leadership as it turns away more moderate Republicans and most Independents.
Cheney has a 25 percent approval rating. He refers to torture as "enhanced interrogation." Arguments to the contrary are referred to as "phony moralizing."
It's clear who the phony is and there is nothing moral about torture, indefinite detention or suspension of human rights. Cheney's moral assault on Iraq resulted in the creation of the current dilemma with the Guantanamo Bay prison and the death or injury/disability of thousands.
If I believed in Dick Cheney, waterboarding should be available like an amusement ride at water parks across America. We could follow that up with hunting trips and random shotgun blasts. The GOP needs to rethink their strategy before they become a historical footnote.
Dick Cheney should do the GOP and the rest of us a favor. Follow George Bush for once and just fade out. We've had enough and we'll be cleaning up for years to come.
