Tax assessment workshop

At 7 p.m. April 10, Schaumburg Township Assessor John Lawson, Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Brendan Houlihan and Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider will host a joint seminar on how to appeal your Schaumburg Township property assessment. The seminar will be held at Schaumburg Township hall, 1 Illinois Blvd., in Hoffman Estates. Attendees should bring their tax bill in order to more effectively file an appeal if they feel their residence was wrongly assessed. There will be a short presentation and staff will be there to answer questions and help fill out complaint forms. For details, call (847) 884-0030.

Senior artwork displayed

An exhibit of artwork by older adults from the Barrington area will be on display starting Friday at The Garlands of Barrington, a retirement community at 1000 Garlands Lane. The artwork was created in classes sponsored by the Barrington Area Council on Aging and The Garlands. The exhibit, which includes works ranging from watercolors to acrylics, will run through April 11 and then again from April 28 through May 9. Business networking event

The Greater O'Hare Association and its affiliates will host the "The Greatest Showcase on Earth," a business networking event, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. April 24 at the Elk Grove Park District Pavilion, 1000 Wellington Ave. in Elk Grove Village. More than 100 businesses will showcase their products and services. Many exhibitors will have drawings for prizes and attendees will also have the opportunity to win a Split-the-Pot cash raffle. Different foods will be offered by restaurants and catering establishments. Admission is free with your business card.

Shelter run-walk coming

Shelter Inc. will hold its second annual 5K Run/Walk 4 Kidz 8 a.m. April 19 at the Higgins Road entrance to Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village, Groves 5-16. Parking is free. A day of family-oriented activities is planned. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age division and overall top man and woman. Also, the first three boys and girls will win a prize in the Kids Dash. Extras for families include crafts, face-painting and inflatables for children, prizes, sponsor booths and an awards ceremony.
