Montgomery man arrested in fatal house fire

A Montgomery man was arrested Sunday in connection with setting a Saturday morning fire that left his brother and cousin dead and injured two more family members, police said.

Theddias Amone LeSure, 21, of the 2400 block of Riva Road, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, four counts of aggravated arson and one count of residential arson.

Kendall County Judge Timothy J. McCann on Sunday set LeSure's bond at 10 percent of $1 million.

Unable to post bond, LeSure is now being held at the Kendall County Correctional Facility.

The police department received multiple 911 calls shortly after midnight about a fire that fully engulfed the single-family residence, where all five family members lived.

Maurice Vaughn, 32, and Matthew LeSure, 26, who police say are LeSure's cousin and brother, respectively, died in the fire.

Kevin and Nakia LeSure were hurt when they tried jumping out of a second-floor window to escape the flames.

According to a news release, the younger LeSure poured gasoline on Vaughn and then set him on fire.

The blaze quickly ignited the entire residence, killing Matthew LeSure, police said.

Kevin LeSure was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora for treatment - he was released earlier Sunday, while she remained hospitalized in fair condition, officials said.

Police were not answering questions beyond a news release Sunday, so it is not known what transpired between the group before the fire.

The Montgomery Police Department's subsequent investigation led to Theddias LeSure's arrest.

He will appear at 9 a.m. today at the Kendall County Court House.

LeSure could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted of one of the first-degree murder charges.

Montgomery police are being assisted by the state fire marshal's office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the investigation.

Anyone with any information about the case - including videos or photographs - is asked to call Detective Sgt. Gregory Sullivan at (630) 897-8707, ext. 3300.
