St. Charles college student killed in car accident

A 24-year-old St. Charles college student on her way home from Tennessee, was killed in a Sunday morning crash on Route 47 in Morris, authorities said.

Meagan E. Ahlstrom was driving northbound on Route 47 - just north of the south entrance to the Grundy County Fair - when a vehicle headed south crashed head-on into Ahlstrom's, police said.

The Morris Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle and she was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:45 a.m.

Her mother, Rebecca Ahlstrom of St. Charles, was riding next to her daughter in the passenger seat.

The elder Ahlstrom was transported to Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers, where she was treated and taken to another hospital - a Morris nursing supervisor declined to say where she was transferred, citing medical privacy laws.

The Grundy County Coroner's Office and sheriff's department are continuing the investigation.

The younger Ahlstrom was wearing her seatbelt and the airbag deployed.
