Vacant house fire in Riverwoods
More than 50 fire and police personnel from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and nearby communities responded to a structure fire in Riverwoods at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters reported the large two-story residence on the 0-100 block of Meridith Lane was "well-involved" in a fire deemed too dangerous for personnel to fight from within. The fire was under control within an hour, but Portwine Road remained closed between Deerfield and Lake-Cook Roads for approximately four hours. Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno confirmed the house was vacant and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Property damage estimates are pending but a Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department news release called the damage extensive with the possibility of a "total loss."
