Lincolnshire day care to reopen under new management

A former Lincolnshire day care center that was shut down by the state in January after a toddler's death is set to reopen this summer with a new name and new management.

The owners of the Children's Land day care center in Glenview plan to reopen a second facility at 400 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. That relatively secluded building had been a Minee Subee day care center until this past January, when the Department of Children and Family Services ordered it closed following the death of a young client.

George Tychalski and his wife, Oxana Anisimov, operate Children's Land and bought the Lincolnshire building in April. They're renovating the facility and have applied for a day-care license from DCFS.

They hope to open the Lincolnshire facility by Aug. 1. Plans call for it to serve 80 to 100 children, ages 15 months to 6 years, said Tychalski, of Glencoe.

It will be a year-round facility known as Children's Land at Lincolnshire, he said.

Tychalski said he and his wife knew what happened at the Minee Subee before they bought the building.

A teacher's assistant at the Minee Subee, Melissa Calusinski of Carpentersville, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after authorities said she threw a 14-month-old boy to the ground because she was upset, killing him.

The owner of the Minee Subee chain, Arlington Heights resident Judith Katz, later was arrested after police said she lied to investigators about the boy's death.

Both suspects are awaiting trial.

Lenna Scott, executive director of the Greater Lincolnshire Chamber of Comemrce, is pleased a new facility will be opening on Marriott Drive.

"While the situation at Minee Subee was tragic and our thoughts are still with the family, we are looking ahead with hope because having another vibrant child-care center in our community is truly a positive thing," Scott said.
