Social Security benefit

Many nursing home residents may be eligible for a one-time $250 cash benefit being offered by the Social Security Administration through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009. The payments will be distributed by check or electronic transfer to eligible beneficiaries by June 4. The money is for the resident's personal use and not to pay the nursing home for cost of care. Those with questions should contact their local Illinois Long Term Care Ombudsman Program at www.state.il.us/aging/1abuselegal/ombuds.htm.
