Sharp rebound
All the stops: The Blackhawks spotlighted as many Chicago sports legends as they could find for Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. Michael Jordan, wearing a red No. 23 sweater, stood with a beaming Bobby Hull in a 100-level suite and gave the fans a wave during a second-period stoppage when the Hawks led 3-0. Jim McMahon, wearing a BLACKHAWKS headband and a No. 9 sweater, came within inches of winning the puck-shooting contest prior to the third period.
But what was up with wearing sneakers, Jimmy Mac? The barefoot look doesn't work on the ice?
Not so fast: During the second period, Hawks fans repeatedly broke out the "Kha-bi! Kha-bi!" chant to celebrate some sweet Nikolai Khabibulin saves when the Hawks led 3-0. Then Khabibulin allowed 3 goals in the final six minutes of the second period - and didn't return to the bench for the third due to injury.
Chelios? Still? Blackhawks fans love to wear their team sweaters. An unscientific poll of Gate 7 entrants suggests captain Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, unsurprisingly, are the most popular Hawks. But there were also a handful of fans wearing Denis Savard sweaters, some Tony Amontes, a Bobby Hull, Doug Wilson, even a Chris Chelios No. 7 sweater.
Really cool: As part of the pregame buildup, the Hawks put together a video montage that included footage from the days when none of the Hawks and Wings - not even the goalies - wore masks.
Priceless: It cost $30 to buy a "Beat Detroit" T-shirt at the Fandemonium store inside the United Center. But if you walked across Madison Street, you could get a "Detroit S---s" T-shirt for $10.
Get well: The Hawks can knot this series with a Game 4 win on Sunday. It'd help to get Martin Havlat and Khabibulin back from their Game 3 wounds.
