Cap and Trade will hurt taxpayers

The House of Representatives plans to pass Cap and Trade legislation by the end of May. According to the Tax Foundation, the bottom 20% of income earners would pay the most, while the top 20% will pay the least.

This is an immediate tax imposed on working families, with the heaviest burden going to single parent households and those living alone. Others who would be affected include those under 25 and over 75 and those living in the southern states. Everyone uses energy, but lower income people spend a higher percentage of their income on energy.

Cap and Trade will raise the price of gasoline, raise our heating and cooling bills, raise the cost of food, and definitely hurt small businesses. All costs will rise!

The American Council on Capital Formation and the National Association of Manufacturers said that gas prices would rise between 60% and 144%. This means that your $100 bill could rise to $244. Electricity prices would rise between 77% and 129%. This means your $100 bill could be $229. Each utility bill could more than double what we are paying.

Each household can expect to pay over $3,129 per year for Cap and Trade. Disposable income per family per year would fall between $4,022 and $6,752. Please contact your representative and say no to Cap and Trade.

There is a procedural shortcut in the Senate called "reconciliation" that Democrat leaders are pushing to get the cap and trade legislation approved by only 50 votes instead of the usual 60 votes. Please contact your senators and ask them to block the use of reconciliation. This will require full disclosure of the impact of these measures and stop a quick vote, like the vote on the stimulus package that no one read. This will give the American people time to let our elected officials know how we want them to vote. After all, they do work for us!

Didn't Obama promise openness and transparency? Didn't Obama say that 95% of the people would not have their taxes raised? Americans are having a tough time right now and this will affect everyone! Is Obama trying to put us all in the poor house?

Tell him how you feel! I think the American people have been had and we have to take a stand to fight this terrible legislation.
