Tollway shift
A major change is scheduled at 7 a.m. Wednesday on the O'Plaine Road Bridge over the Tri-State Tollway that will shift all traffic onto the newly reconstructed northbound side of the bridge. The shift will mark the halfway point in the project to rebuild and lengthen the bridge to allow for the widening of the Tri-State. The work is part of the ongoing widening of the Tri-State for 45 miles from O'Hare International Airport to the Wisconsin state line. The project began two years ago and is expected to be substantially complete by the end of 2009. Call (800) TOLL-FYI for daily lane closure information.
Buffalo Grove seeks OTB input:
Buffalo Grove Village President Elliott Hartstein Thursday issued a statement soliciting input from village residents on a proposal for an off-track betting facility that board members are set to accept or reject at Monday night's board meeting. "I know the board will take all feedback into account and try to make the best decision for the village. I personally have not made up my mind at this time and suspect many members of the board are likewise torn," he said. He said he's heard many arguments pro and con. He said approval of the facility could generate $70,000 to $150,000 in tax revenue for the village in a time when revenues are suffering from the economic downturn, but he said he's also heard arguments from residents against expansion of gambling. Inter-Track Partners LLC wants to open an OTB at Adam's Rib and Ale House, 301 N. Milwaukee Ave. People can send their thoughts by e-mail to info@vbg.org and they will be forwarded to all board members, or come to the board meeting at 7:30 p.m. at 50 Raupp Blvd.
