R.R. Donnelley profit dives
CHICAGO - R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. said Wednesday that its first-quarter profit tumbled 92 percent on restructuring and impairment charges, while sales dropped on weakening demand.
The company, which prints magazines, catalogs and other materials, earned $13.9 million, or 7 cents per share, down from $182.5 million, or 85 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier.
Excluding restructuring and impairment charges of $54.2 million, earnings from continuing operation attributable to shareholders were 24 cents per share. Sales fell 18 percent to $2.46 billion from $3 billion.
International sales declined 27.5 percent to $548.2 million partly on the stronger dollar, while U.S. print and related services revenue dropped 14.9 percent to $1.9 billion.
The company has operations in Chicago and Schaumburg.
