Woman dies in West Chicago crash

A 64-year-old woman died Friday after she drove across a center line and hit another vehicle in West Chicago.

Lee Ranieri was pronounced dead after she was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Ranieri lived in Malta, a small town just west of DeKalb.

West Chicago police Sgt. Chris Woodill said Ranieri was driving a 1994 Ford Taurus east on Roosevelt Road when she crossed the center line and hit a westbound GMC Sierra pickup driven by Norman Meyers, 35, of Batavia.

Woodill said police were summoned to the crash scene at 11:12 a.m. Friday.

Both drivers were taken to Central DuPage Hospital. Woodill said Meyers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators continue to seek the cause of the crash, which was east of Route 59. Woodill said investigators from the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Task Force were assisting West Chicago authorities.

Roosevelt Road was closed for more than three hours after the collision. The DuPage County Office of Emergency Management and the West Chicago Emergency Services Disaster Agency helped at the crash site.
