Schaumburg woman found unresponsive dies

A woman who was found unresponsive in her Schaumburg home April 24 has died, turning the police probe of her mysterious condition into a death investigation.

Jenna M. Ussery, 29, of the 100 block of Hilltop Drive, was transported by Schaumburg paramedics from her home to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. She remained unconscious in critical condition there until her death Wednesday.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy Thursday, but Ussery's cause of death remains undetermined until the results of lab tests are received.

Despite her death, the focus of the immediate police investigation remains the same: to determine how she came to be in the state in which she was found, police Sgt. John Nebl said.

Detectives have processed the home for evidence and interviewed numerous relatives, friends and neighbors, but police have not yet determined if a crime occurred or if there are any suspects in her death.

"We really don't have any suspects if we don't have a crime yet," Nebl said.

Much is now riding on the medical examiner's determination of the cause of death.

"If it was a criminal act that caused it, we would have to investigate that further," Nebl said.
