Elburn Day in the Park seeks help
Elburn's Day in the Park community picnic will happen July 5, as it has for 12 years.
But the fun has a price tag, and the party planners are asking guests to please chip in to make sure it can be as great as it has been in the past.
"We really don't want to let the people down," said Joe Fleming, chairman of the event. "Really, if we could come up with another $3,000 (for fireworks) we'd be in good shape."
Sponsors would also be welcome for the midday activities, such as the bands, bag-toss game and volleyball tournament. The party is held at Lions Park.
There are canisters at businesses throughout Elburn marked for Day in the Park donations. People can also send a donation to the Elburn Chamber of Commerce, 525 N. Main St., Suite 21, Elburn, 60119.
"The community does not realize that the chamber puts this on," not the village or Kane County, Fleming said.
Groups and businesses interested in being sponsors can check elburn.com or call (630) 365-2295 to obtain an application. Sponsorships cost from $150 to $1,000, and include perks such as having their signs up at the event, logos on items and publicity materials.
The best part of the Day in the Park? "I think for me it is seeing all the people come together as a community," Fleming said.
