Lightning hits Vernon Hills home

Lightning struck a roof and left some charring on a home in the 300 block of Pierce Court in Vernon Hills about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Countryside Fire Protection District officials said the lightning hit the peak of the roof and charred some trusses.

Officials said firefighters didn't have to extinguish any flames when they arrived.

Residents were allowed to stay in the home that's attached to six other units.
