Suspect in Bolingbrook murder ends manhunt, turns himself in

A Rockford man charged with stabbing a Bolingbrook woman to death and shooting two men during a domestic dispute turned himself into police.

Karl O. Tynes, 28, is being held at the Will County jail in Joliet in lieu of a $3 million bond. He is charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Tynes agreed to turn himself in Friday evening after a 38-hour manhunt that led authorities from Bolingbrook to Rockford and then to Chicago where Tynes set up his capture, Bolingbrook police said.

Deputy Chief Tom Ross said Tynes had been in contact with family who urged him to give himself up. He was arrested at a family member's home at about 9 p.m. Friday without incident near Cicero Avenue and North Avenue in Chicago, Ross said.

Ross said Tynes did not talk about the crime to investigators. It is believed Tynes is a cousin to one or more of his victims.

Authorities said Tynes stabbed 36-year-old Nicola Williams several times Thursday morning at her home on the 100 block of Lancaster Drive in Bolingbrook. He then attacked two other men in the house, stabbing one and shooting both in the chest. Both men survived their injuries. Children in the home witnessed the crimes and told investigators they saw Tynes flee after the shootings.

Ross said investigators believe Tynes drove his car back to Rockford, set it on fire and then headed to Chicago. Ross said he is unsure how Tynes got to the city.

Bolingbrook investigators were assisted by detectives from Rockford, Chicago and the Illinois State Police, Ross said.
