Hanover Park man charged with robberies
A Hanover Park man was released Saturday on two bonds totaling $125,000 after being charged with a home robbery, other attempted robberies and for attacking a woman to take her purse.
Nestor Ortiz, 19, of 7559 Kingsbury, Hanover Park, was charged with one count of robbery, a class 2 felony; two counts of attempted residential burglary, both class 2 felonies; and one count of residential burglary, a class 1 felony.
Between April and May, Ortiz allegedly rang the door bells at two homes in Schaumburg to check whether the residents were home. When no one answered, he allegedly cut or pushed open window screens. He apparently fled when residents found him.
Also in April, he allegedly knocked down a woman at a drugstore and took her purse, which included an unknown amount of money and two mobile phones. No injuries were reported, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Matt Medina.
In a separate case, Ortiz was riding his bike down a street in Hanover Park, stopped at a home that appeared empty, and allegedly used the patio furniture to climb up to an open window on the second floor. After getting inside, he allegedly took $15 in cash on a table and roughly $275 worth of jewelry, Medina said.
Ortiz had no prior arrests.
A hearing is scheduled for May 29 at Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows.
