Crazy times for Kane
Patrick Kane admitted during the final few moments of Monday night's 7-5 series clincher over Vancouver that he was in a bit of a fog.
The haze didn't lift in the locker room afterward thanks to wave after wave of media surrounding him wanting to talk about his first career NHL hat trick.
Or when that madness finally ended and he picked up his phone and found he already had received 69 messages.
"It took me a half-hour to check my messages," Kane said. "It was crazy."
Two days later, Kane's performance Monday night still was the topic du jour when the youngster met the media again, this time in a much more subdued setting in the anything but raucous United Center.
"It was a special night," said Kane, who has 8 goals in 11 playoff games. "It was fun to be a part of and the biggest thing is we got the win.
"I was saying to my parents that it's probably a good thing to have a couple of days off between games to not watch my highlights from the last game. Once the next series starts you kind of get over that and move on.
"But it was fun. It was quite a night."
Where's the game? Captain Jonathan Toews was looking forward to watching Game 6 of the Anaheim-Detroit series Tuesday night, but he never got the chance.
"I didn't watch the game because I didn't get it at home, there was something wrong with my TV, my Dish Network," Toews said. "I'll have all that figured out by Thursday night (for the series finale), that's for sure."
Like his teammates and his coach, Toews wouldn't say which team he is rooting for, saying only that it would be a tough matchup regardless.
But that doesn't mean Toews doesn't like his team's chances. Asked point-blank if he thought the Hawks could actually win the Stanley Cup this season, Toews didn't hesitate.
"Yeah, we're feeling pretty good," he said. "We're riding pretty high after that last win. It's one of those things that's tough not to think about, but you have to keep focusing on the job you have to do and not thinking about that too much."
He said it: Brent Seabrook comparing the noise at the UC for Game 6 Monday to that of the Bruce Springsteen concert the following night: "I think it was louder for Game 6, to be honest with you. He put on a great show, but I like the show we put on the night before."
He said it II: Patrick Kane on the Hawks' playoff run thus far: "For us at the beginning of the season, I'd be lying to you if I said I thought I'd be here right now."
