Batavia teen receives Eagle Scout Award

Batavia High School junior Michael Hoefler received an Eagle Scout Award at a recent ceremony by Batavia Boy Scout Troop 43.

His Eagle project was a renovation of the landscaping along the Route 64 corridor as you enter the city of St. Charles. His project was coordinated with the city of St. Charles Corridor Commission along with the assistance of Midwest Groundcovers. His Eagle project was awarded the Curbie Award by the city of St. Charles.

As a Scout, Mike and members of his troop were awarded a special citation for putting out a fire at Camp Freeland Leslie two summers ago. Mike has participated in numerous high adventure outings with the troop including the Philmont Trek, Sea Base in the Florida Keys and canoeing the Boundary Waters.

Mike was honored by Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke, former scoutmasters and Eagle Scouts including Bill Baker, voice of the Northern Illinois University Huskies.

Mike spends his summers as a Merit Badge Counselor at Camp Freeland Leslie in Wisconsin where he provides instruction in all water sports activities and water rescue and safety. He will also attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar this summer where he is a candidate for the corps of midshipmen.
