Naperville energy effort:
Naperville's Renewable Energy Program has made the top 10 list issued by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory. With a customer participation rate of 7.8 percent, the program is the sixth-highest in the country. Naperville partners with wind energy supplier Community Energy, Inc., to offer a blend of Illinois wind, small hydro and solar-generated electricity to all of their electricity customers. The average customer pays about $7.50 additional per month. Naperville customers saved nearly 20.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide pollution per year as a result of their participation in the renewable energy program. Wheaton resale shop opens:
The STARS Resale Shop in Wheaton is holding its grand opening celebration starting today and continuing through Saturday. The store at 1072 College Ave. will offer items for resale, including clothing, furniture, accessories, household items, books, movies and jewelry. All proceeds benefit the STARS Disability Ministry at College Church in Wheaton. The store's hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Pantry to hold open house:
Naperville's Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry holds an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 556 W. 5th Ave., Naperville, as part of its celebration of National Volunteer Appreciation Week.
