Nunamaker leads for Fox River Grove presidency
Businessman Robert Nunamaker led by a razor-thin margin in the race for Fox River Grove President Tuesday.
Thirty-two votes in the village's single precinct in Lake County appeared to put Nunamaker over the top in unofficial results, with 251 votes to 227 for Suzanne Blohm, who managed just three votes in that precinct. Paulette Pelletier trailed with 141 votes.
Nunamaker, a member of the village's planning and economic development board, said his top priorities as president would be to cut village spending, and to offer tax incentives to developers and businesses to spur downtown development.
"Most of it has gone to seed," he said, "and it's a real opportunity and a gold mine for the village to revitalize that."
The former Motorola vice president credited his victory to his years of service on the Fox River Grove Elementary District 3 school board, the Lions Club and other public bodies. He also said he canvassed door-to-door in the newer Lake County precinct that appeared to make the difference.
"It may be too early to declare victory," he said, "but it's probably in the bag."
The village president post has been filled on an interim basis since Kay Laube died of cancer last year. Cindy Cramer is the acting village president.
