Barrington bears down, sweeps Libertyville

After giving up a single to the first batter of a twin bill against Libertyville, Barrington's softball pitchers meant business.

They retired the next 30 batters in order as the Fillies swept the Wildcats 10-0 and 18-0 in a pair of five-inning games at the Fields of Dreams.

Senior Kim Cygan's 1-hitter in Game 1 was followed by Kiley Dolezal's first perfect game of her career as the sophomore (2-0) recorded 11 strikeouts.

While playing third base, Cygan actually helped save Dolezal's perfect game.

Cygan made a nice play while charging a bunt and throwing to sophomore first baseman Kiersten Tinkoff in the second inning.

The Fillies (19-2) were led by freshman Jordan Wekony (3-for-4, RBI, 2 runs), sophomore Elizabeth Owen (3-for-4, double, RBI), sophomore Colleen Shandley (2-for-3, 4 runs, RBI), Cygan (2-for-2, 2 doubles, 4 RBI), Tinkoff (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and freshman Kelsey Kazmier (2-for-2, RBI).

Cygan (17-2) struck out eight in the opener.

Top hitters for the Fillies were senior Lindsey Dulla (4-for-4, 2 runs), Owen (3-for-3, 1 run) and sophomore Kiersten Tinkoff (2-for-4, home run, 3 RBI).

Tinkoff's 3-run homer over the center field fence made it 4-0 in the first inning and the Fillies led 8-0 with only one out in the inning.

After a 6-5 loss to Fremd on Thursday, Barrington has its opponents 35-0.

Buffalo Grove 1, Niles West 0: Sophomore Maria Dax improved to 2-0 with a 4-hitter, 7 strikeouts and no walks.

She got the only run in the first inning when K.C. Dunne led off with a single and stole second. Dunne went to third on Andrea DiPrima's base hit and scooted home on Meg Miller's groundout to short.

Emily Begnel had the only other hit for the Bison (9-8).
