Court date set on sex charge:

A Cook County judge has set bond at $150,000 for a 16-year-old Wheeling resident charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault of a 4-year-old. The law demands that defendant Benigo Sanchez be charged as an adult for the Class X felony, which carries a possibile six to 30 years in prison if convicted. Additionally, Judge Kay Hanlon imposed special conditions on the bond should the defendant come up with the required $15,000. They include 24-hour confinement to his home in the 200 block of 2nd street except for when he's at school, no contact with the victim or the victim's family, and no contact with anyone under the age of 18 except at school. He next appears in court April 28.

Burns elected to library board:

A nine-year veteran of the Mount Prospect Friends of the Library organization has been elected to the Mount Prospect Library Board. Barbara Burns was elected Tuesday night to a 4-year unexpired term on the board, beating out William Walters 2,477 votes to 1,462. A 181/2-year resident of Mount Prospect, Burns has been treaurer for the Friends for the last five years. It was her first attempt at elected office.

March benefits babies:

The March for Babies is on Sunday, April 26, at Busse Woods Forest Preserve, Grove #5 in Elk Grove Village. March for Babies supports the March of Dimes fight to save babies from premature birth and other serious threats to infant health. March for Babies began in 1970 and has raised more than $1.7 billion. Training for elected officials:

The Barrington Area Council of Governments has scheduled a "Local Officials Training Workshop" from 6 to 8:45 p.m. April 30 at the Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway. All council member communities' officials are invited. The training program is geared toward newly-elected officials on village and township boards, but the subjects to be covered also have applications for appointed officials like zoning and plan commissioners. The workshop will be presented by the law firm Zukowski, Rogers, Flood & McArdle. Township senior expo:

Maine Township's third annual Senior Expo "Swing into Spring" will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 24 at the Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles. Event sponsors include: Help at Home, Resurrection Health Care and Senior News. Nearly 60 exhibitors will have displays on senior housing, health, financial, and other products and services benefitting senior citizens. There will also be tap-dancing, a yoga demonstration and "Sitting Rockette" performances. Boating safety classes set:

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 7-11 has set several two-day basic boating safety classes for the months ahead at Holy Ghost Church, 254 N. Wood Dale Road in Wood Dale. The four sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 18 and 25; May 9 and 16; June 6 and 13; and July 18 and 25. The cost is $40 per person or $50 per family.
