Blackhawks' resurgence pleases Keenan

Calgary Flames coach Mike Keenan, who witnessed a previous rebirth of the franchise when he coached the Blackhawks from 1988-92, is happy to see hockey back in such a big way here again.

"It's fun to be back here, to see the building alive," Keenan said. "Darryl (Sutter, the Flames general manager) and I, when we came here as coaches, the same transition took place from a small fan base to a lot of playoff games, full houses, a lot of fun."

Keenan credits the Hawks with drafting well during their down years to help get to this point.

"You'd like to think the renaissance would take place if you're picking up people like they have in the draft, and drafting in that position," Keenan said. "That's the pain you go through to acquire players of the ability of the youngsters that you're talking about. That's part of the process.

"Certainly, you have to have a good management team in place to be able to get the players and the selections, so you can build a franchise. Then you get to a certain point where you're hoping that you're not picking those players any longer. That's the cycle of it."

Power play breakthrough: The Flames broke a 0-for-45 dry spell on the power play Saturday with Jarome Iginla's first-period goal.

The Hawks failed on 2 power-play chances in the opening period after coming in 2-for-36 in the previous 10 games. They finally got a power-play goal from Jonathan Toews 46 seconds into the second period.

"We need our power play to have success and score goals for us," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "I think our options and looks and personnel should sustain the momentum when we go on the power play. That's what we're looking for."

Tip-ins: Joel Quenneville reunited the line of Dave Bolland, Martin Havlat and Andrew Ladd, who were together for the winning goal in OT in Game 1. - Calgary defenseman Cory Sarich returned to the lineup after missing seven games with a broken foot.
