Roselle Sister Cities dinner:
The Roselle Sister Cities Commission will sponsor its fifth annual Polish Cuisine Dinner Night from 6 to 8 p.m. April 17 at the American Legion Hall, 344 E. Maple Ave., Roselle. The dinner will be catered by the Roselle Deli and will feature a variety of Polish dishes. This is a fundraiser for the Sister Cities Commission; all proceeds will benefit the Sister Cities Exchange Scholarship Fund. Ticket prices are $17.50 and $15 for seniors and can be purchased at village hall, 31 S. Prospect St. For details, call Mary Ann Allivato at (630) 671-2801.
Waubonsie wins energy grant
Waubonsie Valley High School received a $5,000 grant to participate in the Illinois Innovation Talent Energy Reduction Challenge program. Students enrolled in environmental science classes will team up with students in architectural design to conduct an energy audit of the school's freshman campus. The goal is for students to identify ways the school can reduce energy demand and save money. Students will also be challenged to find creative solutions and make recommendations to district staff for implementation. The student's work will be shared by the Illinois Innovation Talent Advisory Board with other schools across the state.
Neuqua wins reading award:
Naperville's Neuqua Valley High School has won a 2009 International Reading Association Exemplary Reading Program Award. Neuqua officials will receive the award May 3 in Minneapolis. The award is presented to schools that serve as examples to other schools for literacy approaches, programs and creative education techniques.
