Wheaton police seek suspect in attempted armed robbery

Wheaton police are looking for a handgun-wielding teen who tried to rob a convenience store early Monday morning, authorities said.

The attempted armed robbery happened about 2 a.m. at a 7-Eleven store at 625 W. Roosevelt Road, police said. The suspect entered the store carrying a handgun and demanded money.

But before the clerk could give him money from the cash register, the suspect fled from the store on foot.

Police describe the suspect as a white male about 17 years old, standing about 5 feet 5 inches with a small build. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood and blue jeans.

Anyone with information should contact Cmdr. Joseph Eversole at (630) 260-2056.
