Greed created the mess we're in
It seems like a day can't go by that we aren't treated to one or more letters that appear from writers wringing their hands in despair about the path that Obama is leading this country down.
I'm sorry but you "free market, greed is good" supplicants have no one but yourselves to blame for the mess we're in. Your lack of any sense of social responsibility has proved that you do not have the moral fiber required to allow you the laissez-faire treatment you long to return to. It's going to take someone with some moral fiber to pursue a solution that can balance economic and humanity as much as possible. Unfortunately, according to the American public, the conservatives have quite resoundingly proven to be not up to the task.
It was you, in your demand for unregulated freedom to pursue every last dollar in the world no matter who got hurt in the process that created AIG, the subprime mess, insuring garbage with more garbage, and on and on. And how many fools decried in one breath that our autos were uncompetitive because of a $2,000 cost per car for health care and in the next breath rail against National Health Care? How ignorant must one be to reject unemployment extension funds because you might have to maintain that level of support in the future?
The fact is this country, because of the political system, can never be run from the middle. The radical right and the radical left are the generators of change in direction. However, because of the over corrections as one party or the other party rules, the turnover causes another radical swing in the other direction which becomes a self-feeding cycle.
