Lawsuit filed in Fox Lake boat crash

A lawsuit has been filed by a woman injured in an Aug. 15 boat crash on Nippersink Lake near Fox Lake. Brenda Schmid of Palatine seeks unspecified damages from the operators of both boats, who sheriff's police said were intoxicated at the time. According to the suit filed by the Waukegan firm of Salvi, Schostok and Pritchard, Schmid was a passenger in a boat operated by Mark Holmquist of Fox Lake. His boat collided with a one operated by David Caplan of Glenview and capsized. Holmquist was trapped under water for a time and wound up being treated at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Both Holmquist and Caplan were charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and are due in court Oct. 9.
