Most wanted arson suspect captured in California
The McHenry County Sheriff's Top Ten Most Wanted list temporarily is down to nine after the capture late last week of a former Woodstock man suspected in a string of arsons.
Juan Antonio Gonzalez Sandoval, 38, was captured Thursday in Laguna Beach, Calif., by members of the U.S. Marshals Service acting on information supplied by the sheriff's department and Woodstock Police, Sheriff Keith Nygren announced Monday.
Sandoval, Number 10 on the most wanted list, was wanted for three counts of aggravated arson alleging he set fire to three apartment buildings in May 2007 at a Woodstock complex.
Sheriff's Lt. Andrew Zinke said the break in the case came as a result of information obtained from local sources.
"We got the information a few weeks back and we've tracking him ever since," Zinke said.
Sandoval remains in California awaiting extradition back to McHenry County, where he faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of the aggravated arson charges.
