Ayers: a communist, with a small 'c'

Bill Ayers has identified himself as a communist with a small 'c.' A communist is a Marxist. A communist is also a socialist. A communist despises the U.S. and its constitutional system. A communist wants to "change" the existing government and replace it with something more efficient; something with no enumerated powers; something where legislative, judicial and executive branches function as one; something without property rights or any inalienable rights at all, including the right to life; in other words, something like a dictatorship.

In pursuit of this political vision, Ayers bombed the Pentagon, among other things, which not only makes him a certifiable crank but also a terrorist and a traitor. He should be swinging from a gallows. But, he is not. Rather, the man is teaching at my alma mater, a state-supported school, the University of Illinois, Chicago. He is teaching students to be teachers.

I earned a master's degree from a teachers college, Chicago State College. There I took an educational philosophy course. I was amazed to learn that the teachers openly confessed to being Marxists - communists with a small 'c' - teaching at a teachers college, teaching students to be teachers. This experience is remarkable because it suggests that communists teaching in public schools constitutes the norm rather than the exception. Ayers, typically for a communist, defended his proposed speech as an exercise in free speech. This is funny coming from a communist, as communists do not permit free speech and a free market of ideas. I invite the reader to count how many bombers of abortion clinics teacher Kermit Eby invited to speak at Naperville North High School. Award winning teachers like Ayers and Ely have no interest in students thinking for themselves. Naperville students will miss nothing important.
