Cary keeps incumbents on village board
Cary opted for consistency on its village board as voters retained three incumbents Tuesday.
Incumbents Steve Adams, Duane "Rick" Dudek and Ray Chisholm won re-election for 4-year terms with 571, 570 and 484 votes, respectively. They defeated challengers Fred O'Laughlin and Robert Bragg, who garnered 287 and 442 votes.
During the campaign, candidates focused on maintaining financial stability given the tough economic times facing the nation. Incumbents also stressed holding off on a large-scale downtown development until the economy turns around.
"I'm pleased we're keeping the incumbents," Dudek said. "We're not going to lose any energy or momentum." He added priorities in the coming year will be public works improvements and mending fences with other local governments such as the park district.
Bragg contends the village needs to focus on bringing more businesses to town and building the relationships necessary to make it happen.
As well, each candidate pledged to combat gang activity and vandalism that surfaced in the Arrowhead subdivision last winter.
