Comment to dog owner out of line
I read the article in today's Daily Herald regarding Ms. Bucher and her five dogs. My comment to Mr. Heer has nothing to do with the dog ordinance, but rather, his statement to Ms. Bucher.
Mr. Heer admonished Ms. Bucher for creating a "circus atmosphere" by talking to radio stations and journalists. Has Mr. Heer failed to realize that Ms. Bucher is allowed to talk to anyone she chooses, as protected by her first amendment rights?
And how exactly does Mr. Heer decide what amount of discussion is appropriate vs. too much? As a constitutional reminder to this village trustee, Ms. Bucher certainly has the right to present her argument as much as she wishes, to anyone that will listen. If the media thought there was no story, they wouldn't have given her the time of day.
In the context of the article, Mr. Heer's comment seems to do nothing more than bully this elderly woman who is fighting a losing battle and is facing an immeasurable heartbreak. Mr. Heer, is this why you got into politics; to come off as an insensitive censor? If so, well done.
