No charges expected in Streamwood baby case
A newborn baby who police said was taken by her grandmother in Streamwood Saturday night is home safe, and no charges are expected to be filed in the case.
The infant was taken by her paternal grandmother following a family dispute, but after family intervention, the baby was returned to police at about 1 a.m. Monday, officials said.
Police were still investigating the incident later Monday, but Streamwood Deputy Police Chief Jim Gremo said charges against the grandmother are unlikely, as the child's mother told police she doesn't want to pursue legal action.
However, police were still looking for the grandmother as of Monday afternoon, Gremo added.
"The investigation is still open," he said.
According to reports, the baby's mother was physically attacked by the grandmother and the infant was taken from the residence without the permission.
It remains unclear who was traveling with the grandmother when family intervened and talked her into turning over the child. Police added the father of the child remained in custody on domestic abuse charges.
