UC the 'cool' spot to be

Random sights and sounds from the UC:

•"Everyone here's been cool," said the young guy wearing a No. 30 Calgary jersey while standing outside between periods. "Not too many people have been giving me (guff)."

Just then, a Hawks fan in a throwback jersey came up to the young guy and complimented him on "representing" and invited him to join his group of friends for a beer.

• Bears tight end Greg Olsen receiving almost as big an ovation as the fetching "Sasha" got during the shoot the puck contest.

• A small band of Calgary fans stationed right behind the Flames' bench getting quite animated with some "Let's go Flames" chants about an hour before the opening faceoff.

Then the game started.

• The ever-classy Stan Mikita soaking in the love from the fans when he strolled the red carpet to drop the ceremonial first puck.

• The first beach ball appearance in the waning seconds of the second period as it started making its way up from the lower bowl.
