The holocaust continues today

On April 20, I read the article in the Daily Herald about the dedication of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. Contemplating this and the movie, "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler," my heart ached for all the innocent lives and victims taken, and those who survived those horrendous times in our history. It brought back memories of my grandmother showing me pictures and newspaper articles attesting to these crimes when I was nine years old. To put it simply, it made me cry.

Have we learned nothing from the holocaust? Elie Wiesel stated "I must confess, the answer is no." He mentions Cambodia, Rwanda, Darfur, Bosnia and racism. I am sure there are many more, but one in particular that is also close to my heart is the holocaust of aborted babies in this country and around the world. This is all happening behind closed doors. It seems our moral compass is being tested over and over again. We're failing to realize that love is "respect for life."

President Obama spoke (by video) to the people attending the dedication of the Holocaust Museum stating, "It'll help each of us to understand what we can do to fight the many forms of injustice and cruelty that persist in our times."

Truth be told, what can be more cruel and hateful than to pass piecemeal The Freedom of Choice Act transparently behind closed doors? Do you see the hypocrisy?

I believe we are all living out the holocaust day in and day out, as long as we continue to blindfold our eyes and cover our mouths and ears to the truth.

The Holocaust Museum's slogan is "Remember the Past, Transform the Future." I certainly hope so. Our values are at risk. God help us all.
