Wronski sisters lead Huntley past Hononegah 4-0

Huntley broke out of a scoring drought in a big way thanks to the Wronski sisters. Corinne Wronski scored twice and Aimee Wronski had a goal and an assist, all within the span of 4 minutes, as the Red Raiders downed Hononegah, 4-0, in nonconference girls soccer action Saturday in Huntley.

Huntley outshot the visitors from Rockton 12-2 in the first half, but led only 1-0 on a goal by Samantha Zobott in the 31st minute as the Raiders tuned up for their match with St. Charles North in today's Pepsi Challenge at Concordia University.

The floodgates opened shortly after intermission. Aimee Wronski made a nice run up the right side, centered it perfectly to Corrine Wronski, who put it home. Just over a minute later, Aimee Wronski's shot trickled past the Indians' goalkeeper but appeared to stop just short of the goal line. She followed her shot and tapped it in ahead of a racing defender.

Then Corinne Wronski turned on a loose ball in the crease and fired it in off the crossbar to give Huntley (12-1) a commanding 4-0 lead.

The scoring outburst was just a matter of getting back to basics. After experimenting with a different formation in the first half, the Red Raiders reverted to their basic formation for the second 40 minutes, and things fell into place.

"We just got more confident in ourselves," said Corinne Wronski. "We started playing more as a team, talking more to each other, trying to finish our shots, looking for more combinations."

It was just a matter of time until the Red Raiders started finding the net.

"We've been telling them they're going to break loose," said Huntley coach Kris Grabner. "It's just a matter of time until we catch fire."

Sara Hoffman made 3 saves in the net for Huntley.
