H1N1 vaccines offered Saturday in Barrington

A Web site for those wanting to sign up for a just-announced H1N1 flu shot clinic in Barrington Saturday has crashed because of heavy traffic.

Officials from Barrington Area Unit District 220, who helped organized the clinic, were hopeful the Web site - flubusters.com - would be back up and running later Wednesday evening.

A quantity of 2,500 H1N1 flu vaccinations are to be made available to members of the Barrington-area community at the clinic this Saturday, Nov. 14.

No walk-ins will be allowed, with the shots offered strictly by appointment only.

The appointments will be set on the first-come first-served basis, though organizers are encouraging those in designated priority groups - including pregnant women, children and young adults between the ages of 6 and 24, health care workers and people with underlying medical conditions - to sign up.

At this clinic, no shots will be offered to children aged 36 to 47 months because of the current unavailability of the specific vaccine for that age group.

The shots will be administered by registered nurses employed by a private company in the cafeteria of Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St., from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants should use the Lake-Cook/Main Street entrance to the campus.

The required reservations may be made for adults and children by visiting flubusters.com, selecting the H1N1 clinic type and entering the 60010 ZIP code or by calling (866) 358-2878 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and selecting options 0 or 4.

When all 2,500 vaccinations are reserved, the registration process will close.

A $15-per-person administrative fee for the vaccine is payable to the private company administering the vaccine. Billing to Medicaid or most insurance providers can be arranged during registration. Children must be accompanied by a parent, and participants must show the printed confirmation or identification code they receive when registering.

The clinic has been set up by the Lake County Health Department and District 220.
